Let It Shine....

Welcome to my next homework assignment for my Altenew Academy Educator Certification. Today is All About Shine.

There are LOTS of ways to add shine to your projects. Glitter, embossing powder, embellishments, shimmer and sparkle pens, metallic paper and foils.

While I am not a fan of glitter itself, I do like glitter paper! I use embossing powder a lot, especially for my sentiments. Embellishments are awesome. I often use rhinestones, dew drops and sequins. If you have followed me for a while you already know "everything is better with a wink of Stella" or a Nuvo shimmer pen! I have not worked much with metallic paper except around the holidays. There are however lots of fun colors out there that I really need to try out. Lastly foils, foils are awesome. I recently learned you can use them even without a laminator.

Last week I colored a cute Mermaid from The Rabbit Hole. Using it as one of my challenge cards and next month it will be a birthday card for one of my favorite little mermaids!  I colored the scales on the fin then covered it with a Wink of Stella. This is a super way to give fish scales and wings a little shine.

Let me tell you about using deco foil WITHOUT the laminator!  I will show you the "Dipped" technique . I will be using a large word die that I have that was part of an exclusive kit I received from Hedgehog Hollow.

Cut out your word or image preserving the negative for easier handling.

Using a chisel tipped glue pen, add glue where you would like the foil to be. Let it dry a bit and place a piece of foil on top. The colored side up, and gently burnish with your bone folder. Now without removing the foil, run it through your die cutter as if you were cutting it without the metal die. (just the paper and foil!)

Then slowly pull the foil sheet back........

Super cool, right?!  It also will allow you to use all those little extra bits of foil that might otherwise go wasted. I am still just so amazed!

I hope I gave you lots of options to get your shine on. Now get out there and add some glitz, glimmer, shimmer and shine to your projects!

Anything With Wings.........

Good Morning & Happy Hoppin' Day from Skyway Drive!

Welcome to the Pal's June Blog Hop. We're so glad you are here because we made some great projects using "Anything with Wings". You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal's blog. Either way, you've come to the right place. You'll find the full line-up below to help you move, or "hop" along from Pal to Pal.

When I started thinking about this hop, my mind first went to Butterflies, but it being June my favorite set is now retired...šŸ˜ž.  So I started sorting through my sets and AHA! The pig with wings. Totally out of the box and NOT a bird, (which I thought everyone might be doing).

I have loved this set since it first came out.  There is just something happy and playful about it.  My card is a CASE of multiple samples from several people on Pinterest.

I have not gotten any of the new DSP's yet so I decided to not add any to this card, since they would be retired. I started with a basic card base made from Whisper White Thick Card Stock, to that I added  layer of Flirty Flamingo cut to 5.5 x 4.25 covering the entire card base. Next I took a piece of Whisper White, a blending brush and my Night Of Navy Ink Pad. I blended out the ink creating a cool blue background. Then I splattered it with Shimmer Craft Spray AND thinned out white craft paint. Giving it a sparkly night time effect.

I cut this down to a 2.5 inch strip and added to my card base.  I then took two pieces of thick Whisper White cut to 1 x 5.25 and 1.75 x 5.25 inches. On the larger piece I stamped the sentiment with Versamark and heat embossed with Black Embossing Powder.  Placing a piece of fun foam to add dimension and stability to the back of each piece, then attaching them to my card base. I colored up my Piggy with alcohol markers, adding Wink Of Stella to the wings to make them magical. Because really, how can a flying pig not be magical?

I added my cute little piggy with a wobble, so it actually looks like it is flying. Some Basic Rhinestone Jewels added the perfect finishing touch and a little bling.

I hope you enjoyed my Flying Piggy card.

More inspiration awaits! Use the Blog Hop Line-up below to visit the rest of this month's Design Team. My fellow Pals are excited to show you what they've created! Don't forget to show us some love by commenting on our creations.  Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 10, 2019 when our Hoppin' Pals share their "Mixing It Up" projects.  Don't miss the fun.

Whimsy Stamps Penguin Poop for Father's Day!

Happy Sunday from Skyway Drive.

Next week is Father's Day and this week was the For The Guys Class for me over at the Altenew Academy. Two birds with one stone so to speak for me!
My Dad is no longer with us, but I have this awesome Uncle I send cards to, He recently told me "your little note cards lift my spirits". SO! of course I had to make him one for Father's Day that was slightly funny!

Recently I reorganized my stamp sets and did a little purging, so I had this set in my mind!  It is from Whimsy Stamps and is called Penguin Poop. I picked the sentiment because it brought to mind "Dad Jokes".

I started my layers as usual with a white card base, adding Bazzill Licorice and some black striped paper from Echo Park. I cut all my layers with My Favorite Things Wonky Stitched Rectangle Dies.  On the top layer I took some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide in Salty Ocean and made a spot of color that I then splattered some water on to get that neat background.

I then stamped the sentiment in Versafine and heat embossed it with clear powder. I took a scrap square of the Hammermill, which I prefer to color on and placed it in my Stamparatus and stamped my heart and my penguin with Gina K amalgam black.  I did this because I wanted to emboss the penguin and you cannot do that before you color, it will ruin your copic.  I colored the heart and the penguin and placed it back in the Stamparatus and stamped it again this time with Versafine. Then clear heat embossed it, giving him a bit of shine.

The Brother Scan N Cut gave me perfectly cut out images! Before adding them, I placed some silver twine as a balloon string. I mounted them both to the background piece with foam squares. Three clear dew drops from My Favorite Things and a little white gel pen in the balloon were the finishing touch!

I hope my funny Penguin lifted your spirits as it is destined to next Sunday for my Uncle Bob!
